4. Flashing content - Level AAA - eLaHub

Do not include any content in your eLearning resource, which flashes more than three times per second.

Note

This recommendation is based on 2.3.2 Three Flashes (Level AAA) It is very similar to standard 2.3.1 Three flashes or Below Threshold (Level A). 2.3.1 however, allows you to use content which flashes more than three times per second, as long as the flash is below the “general flash and red flash thresholds.” Best practice, however, is to avoid any content which flashes more than three times per second completely.

What can I do?

Avoid using any content in your eLearning resource, which flashes more than three times per second.

Why?

People who have photosensitive epilepsy, can have seizures if any content flashes more than three times per second. Different people will be affected by lights at different flash or flicker rates. Lights that flash or flicker between 16 and 25 times a second, are the most likely to trigger seizures. But some people, are sensitive to rates as low as 3 or as high as 60 flashes, or flickers, a second.
